Lee Miller: [Hands a knife to the girl he just saved from rape] Next time, cut it

Synopsis

The story of American photographer Lee Miller, a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II. The production was given full access to Lee Miller’s archive, with the full cooperation and trust of Miller’s family. Miller was denied entry to Hitler’s apartment because it was “officers only.” War correspondents were given the rank of captain, so technically the US Army guard should have granted her admission. The closing credits have some “what happened” explanations; and some of Lee’s original photographs, often along with those recreated for the film.

death, embodied in his photographs

Featured in the episode The 7PM Project: October 21, 2024 episode (2024). “Lee” realizes his vision: to tell the truth about Lee Miller, and therefore to tell the truth about life, about pain, about joy, and about life. The way the audience sees everything through Kate Winslet’s eyes as she uses every eye movement, mouth/lip line, breath and more. I’m glad the film doesn’t have to show already familiar shocking scenes, but WE CAN SEE them just by seeing them through Kate’s point of view.

Lee isn’t about war

That’s what makes the film so powerful. She’s a beautiful woman but also smart, honest and brave (which is why Kate was perfectly cast as Lee Miller). The HUGE challenges she faced in seeking the truth and then telling it by taking these photos. The famous bathtub scene is magical.

Effective 2 doors slamming

A careful foresight of one of the most picturesque images is worth the price alone. The film manages to include some conviviality, as if to give the audience a much needed respite in this moment in history. Brilliant. There are also some funny "drunken acts" which brings some levity to some of the most horrific circumstances of World War II.

New important details revealed and detailed information differences each time

I have seen this film 4 times at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival): 2 public screenings and 2 press screenings & industry screenings, from 4 different locations in the theater, specifically.
